The design process for the sculptural pieces is definitely the most challenging part of making them. It requires me to add and take away numerous times via drawings or cut-out pieces of paper until I arrive at a design that works. Once I have hewn the wood pieces and adhered them to the support, a gradual transformation takes place via sanding and the application of several layers of matte white paint and polymers. Each multidimensional artwork acts as a narrator when presented with light. As shadows fall on the surface, a variety of stories can be told, depending on the source of light or where the onlooker stands.
